Tea Launch – August 2019
On the 16th August in the Mayor’s parlour at Dudley Council House we launched Brew No6 – The Duncan Edwards’ Tea.
Duncan was a teetotaller. Occasionally seen with a shandy or sherry in his hand, his favoured drink was a good old fashioned cuppa. A dash of milk, two sugars and the obligatory custard creams to dunk! So what better way to remember Duncan than with his very own Black Country brew?
I contacted Warwickshire tea blending experts The Tea Company who jumped at the chance at blending a perfect cuppa for our perfect footballing hero. They came up with a delicious blend of Assam from North East Indonesia – Ceylon for Sri Lanka for a wonderfully smooth taste finished with Simatra from East Africa for the strength that Duncan loved.
Brew No6, available as loose tea or as a tea bag, proved a huge success with the 40 plus invited guests including the Mayor of Dudley Cllr David Stanley, members of Duncan’s family, trustees of the Foundation, councillors and members of the media. It was served of course in china cups (although I’m sure Duncan would have preferred a mug!) And the much needed biscuit – who do you think dunked first? (it was in fact our trustee, former Wolverhampton Wanders and England star Mel Eves!)
The tea is proving to be a huge success and can be found at Black Country Tee Shirts, The Hub at Merry Hill and will soon be on sale at the Black Country Museum. At £4.95 it has a shelf life of 2 years once opened, comes in a resealable – biodegradable bag and really is the perfect brew for our Duncan.
Why not host a fund raising event – Dunk for Duncan?
A perfect excuse to stop for elevenses and raise money for the Foundation.
